Organisation Consulting
Nic works with a systemic and emergent consulting approach to help client organisations lay the foundation for sustainable performance improvement. His view as an "architect of change" is that significant alignment and mobilisation of managers and customer facing staff can be achieved through a series of integrated steps woven together into a client specific programme.
"From my experience, any organisation consulting process is but one piece of the never-ending executive puzzle of ensuring that a company as a whole is prepared, equipped and engaged to meet ongoing and future business demands. Talent assessment, organisation design, role clarification, standards for quality and service, customer obsession, sales focus, enabling leadership and action learning have been the threads that specific clients I have worked with have woven together. Clear governance, performance management systems and smart compensation design, to name but a few, also have their parts to play in communicating the right behaviour required to deliver strategy."
Developing Performance Management
This targeted intervention is helpful where there is a need to create a step change in leadership behaviour, with particular emphasis on performance management. Presenting symptoms may include a lack of a commercial culture in the sense of inconsistent management of performance against objectives or where relationships within a key performance driving group are largely transactional with limited collegiate behaviour.
Each Developing Performance Management programme is developed collaboratively and is deliberately designed to change both mindset and behaviour. It is challenging in its design and involves one-to-one work, observation, dialogue, experiential skill building workshops and learning with work teams.
Coaching Supervision
As more organisations train line managers as manager-coaches and develop internal coaches, one way in which Nic, as an external independent coach, can add value is by supporting the development of that internal coaching capability – in effect - coaching the coaches. Supervision can be a mix of one to one and group sessions.
Enabling Transformation
The purpose of an Enabling Transformation Programme is "to provide a framework to effect the sustainable behavioural and cultural change necessary in order for the client organisation to achieve step change objectives"
Each Enabling Transformation programme is a tailored approach to enabling leaders at every level in the business to lead their people more effectively in order that the organisation can better adapt, innovate, learn and succeed in the ever changing environment in which it operates.
"Significant alignment and mobilisation of managers and leaders at all levels can be achieved through a series of integrated steps. Enabling Transformation is designed to inform, support and encourage the quality of relationship between leaders and their teams that enables and sustains transformation. These steps are designed to leave the client organisation with the tools to continually re-invent themselves without always having to rely on external support."
Enabling Transformation involves running tailored events (both formal and informal) with Board members and Senior Managers. Other work-streams involve developing internal consulting capability, business literacy and programme governance. The design of each element is finalised after a deeper understanding of the key issues has been generated through a diagnostic phase (including key document analysis, structured and unstructured interviews, unattributable feedback and possibly focus groups and psychometric instruments – all conducted by an appropriate mix of internal and external resources).
"In times of transformation, my perspective is that the most effective leadership is adaptive and enabling. Rather than forcing change, 'Enabling Transformation' provides a powerful change architecture that creates a platform to drive change from within. "
